I watch you walking down a city street
I see you almost every day
I wonder what it is you are looking for
You seem to search, never find

Your face reflected in a window pane
A beauty in a picture frame
If only I could see inside your heart
And find the answer you're looking for

Like a dancer on the stage
You speak with each and every step
Of a woman who is searching for a better way
If I had the strength I'd help you
Only I'm the same as you
We are the last, last two to dance

From the moment I first saw you
Moving through the crowd
It was just as if a spotlight had followed you
If I could get a little closer
Then I wouldn't miss my cue
We'd be the last, last two to dance

I feel the movement of a symphony
As you glide across the floor
If only I could see inside your heart
And be the answer you're looking for

Like a dancer on the stage
You speak with each and every step
Of a woman who is searching for a better way
If I had the strength I'd help you
Only I'm the same as you
We are the last, last two to dance

We are the last, last two to dance, oh

If I had the strength I'd help you
Only I'm the same as you
We are the last, last two to dance

I wonder how long you'll keep walking by
I'll keep watching just the same

Yuri Costantini is an America fan from Urbisaglia, Italy. He is currently studying in Venice and next year he'll be studying in France. On August 31, 1998 I received a cassette from Yuri with this song which has only been released in Italy. We are all indebted to Yuri for making it available to us. The song was released as a 45 record and Yuri also sent me a copy of the 45 record cover. Since you cannot buy this song anywhere, I have digitized it and included it here in it's entirety ( Real Audio file). The flip side of the record is an instrumental version of the song.

When Dewey was asked about the origin of this song he said: "It was a song written by an Italian artist and performed at the San Remo Song Festival on the Italian Riviera. We then wrote English lyrics of our own to the exsisting melody, called it "Last Two To Dance", and performed it at the festival. There were several acts doing the same thing with other Italian artists that year. I think it must have been around 1990/91 but I'm not sure."

This is what Yuri had to say about the song: America wrote this song in 1990 with S. Giacobbe and S. Cutugno who are pop singers in Italy. You would probably call them "Italian country singers". I think that only me, my grandmother, and the Italians in the "Little Italy" of New York City or in Argentina loves them.

In the early 80s AMERICA became very famous in Italy and in 1982 they went to the biggest Italian music festival, San Remo, where they played with SURVIVOR.

In December of 1999 I received another special treat from an Italian fan. Luigi Mancini sent me a copy of the live version of "Last Two To Dance" as it was performed in Italy. I digitized that file and have included it here in it's entirety ( Real Audio file).
