America: In The Beginning - Part 1
Introduction Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10

As far as I know: The boys were all sons of American servicemen. They all were accustomed to moving constantly. DEWEY once said that is was tough, the only good thing was that when you messed up, you could always count on starting over again, new. The 3 met in high school in London, they were in various dance type bands. One of them that GERRY was in was "Swallow the Buffalo". It was this band, namely GERRY'S work, who caught the attention of their first manager, Jeff Dexter. GERRY'S work impressed him & this led Dexter to AMERICA. The 1st LP was released via Warner, not too successful; 4 more cuts went in including "HORSE" & the rest is history (< - hey, could be a good name for an LP).

DEWEY has said that "HORSE" was written when he was 18. Much of it when he was sitting in a drizzly, gray day in London. It was kind of an abstract summation of what he missed in the States. GERRY wrote "I NEED YOU" when he was 16. More to follow. Stay tuned to these same channels. Get out your acoustic guitars ! ! ! 12 string too.
