Rex Cox

Meet Rex Cox from Midwest City, Oklahoma.

I was a twelve year-old kid back in 1972 when I first heard "A Horse With No Name"--still one of my all-time favorites. I was hooked and have been a fan of America ever since. The first time I saw America in concert was during the summer of 1979. I was eighteen and had just finished my first year of college. The concert was in Norman, Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Arena on the University of Oklahoma campus. It's a large arena where OU plays their basketball games and the place was packed. Back in the '70's, arena-packing groups like BTO, the Doobie Brothers, Kansas, and Journey perfomed there, so you know it was a pretty good sized venue. America was touring and promoting their latest album, 'Silent Letter', which I still have, in mint condition. It was a great concert. I even got one of Gerry Beckley's guitar picks! I still have that too.

America is scheduled to play here in Oklahoma City on August 1st and I plan on being there. It's been nearly twenty years since I saw and heard that concert in Norman, so I'm looking forward to seeing them live once again.

I'm also very glad to hear that albums like Silent Letter are coming out soon on CD--now I can complete my CD collection of America's music. Having their greatest hits disc isn't enough. America is one of those rare groups where there isn't a clunker on any of their albums, so you have to have them all.

When I'm not collecting or listening to music, I'm fortunate enough to get to make the lion's share of my living as a pilot and flight instructor. I also enjoy spending time woodworking and working on my Dad's farm.

Feel free to send your comments or questions to Rex.
