Kristine Carlson Asselin

Kris with Gerry after the North Adams, Massachusetts concert on August 11, 1996.

Meet Kristine Carlson Asselin from Waltham, Massachusetts.

I've been an America fan since the mid '70's when I first heard "Sister Golden Hair" driving home from my grandmothers house in the back seat of my parents station wagon. In the 80's my best friend and I were hanging out in her grandmothers barn (we were freshmen in high school) and found some old albums which reaquainted us with America. At that point, we both started our quest to find every America album ever recorded. It took me about five years of searching used record stores, trade magazines and yard sales, but I finally succeeded. It has been my quest recently to gather as much America music on CD as possible (I'm well on my way!).

While we were in college, the same friend and I took a pilgrimage to LA to search for America. We came home with song books, glossy pictures, and we had seen them in concert (at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano). It was one of the best vacations ever.

I am recently engaged (getting married next year) and planning my wedding. I currently live in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

I work as an administrator at Brandeis University located in Waltham, Massachusetts (a private university in the greater Boston area. I advise students planning concerts and special events, as well as the university's family weekend, black history month, and other campus wide activities.

I'm still an avid America fan, having seen them in concert eight or nine times. I'm looking forward to meeting Gerry and Dewey someday to thank them for the great music they've given all of us over the years.

Update: August 27, 1996

I've had an incredibly busy summer and I need to let everyone know how awesome the last three weeks have been for me. I've seen the guys twice in concert (one in North Adams, MA and once in Boston, MA) and even had my picture taken with Gerry (see above). At the Boston show they played a couple of songs I know they've been performing lately, but I've never heard live. It was great (The Last Unicorn, California Dreamin', and Never Be Lonely), along with the rest of the incredible set! There were about 10,000 people in City Hall Plaza for the free show. I have to say I was a blubbering idiot when I actually had the opportunity to talk to Gerry. I just barely managed to get out "Can I take a picture with you?" I guess it's hard to find the words to express to someone how much his music means to you.

Anyway, I just needed to tell other fans who understand how I feel. Lately I've felt really discouraged because none of the college students I work with seem to know who America is!

I hope you've all had as great a summer as I've had.

Update: August 28, 1997

I got married since my last update and my new last name is Asselin. I am now living in Waltham, MA. By the way, I saw the guys in Boston two weeks ago, and they were awesome. We sat right in the front row. It was a free concert and was attended by approximately 10,000 people.

Feel free to send your comments or questions to Kris.
